In 2021, remote online notarization (RON) has seen significant progress, with more than six states enacting permanent RON legislation. In July, New Jersey joined this list of states that have adopted permanent RON legislation.

On July 22, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed A4250/S2508, authorizing RON and making New Jersey the 36th state to adopt RON. Pending any additional regulations or training from the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES), RON will be available to notaries in New Jersey on October 20, 2021.

Notarize expresses its commitment to providing a platform that prioritizes safety and security in notarization processes. While encouraged by the progress made in 2021, Notarize looks forward to continuing its work as a partner and resource to governments to expand RON across the country.
