South Dakota Adopts Remote Online Notarization

Remote online notarization is more than just a modern convenience for businesses and the general public. It has the potential to provide more than four million notaries nationwide with a safer, simpler, more certain way to serve life’s most important transactions.

South Dakota is the latest to join the RON movement. Governor Kristi Noem signed House Bill 1272 into law this week, granting her state’s 18,000 notaries the ability to serve the public through remote online notarizations.

Montana Revises Remote Online Notarization Laws to Match National Model

Four years ago, Montana Governor Steve Bullock signed Senate Bill 306 into law, making his state only the second to adopt remote online notarization after Virginia in 2011.

Much has changed in four years, but Montana’s commitment to the RON movement appears as strong as ever. The Montana Legislature has unanimously approved House Bill 370 to revise the state’s RON laws to align with the national model.

Idaho Becomes 5th State to Pass Remote Online Notarization Bill in 2019

Though it’s some 2,000 miles away from our Boston headquarters, Idaho holds a special place in the heart of Notarize. It’s where our founder and CEO Pat Kinsel came up with the idea for the company just months after breaking his leg in a skiing accident.

And this week, Idaho became the latest state to adopt remote online notarization as Governor Brad Little signed Senate Bill 1111 into law. SB 1111 is the fifth RON-related bill this year, and equips its 25,000 notaries with the ability to perform remote online notarizations.

North Dakota Enacts Remote Online Notarization

Remote online notarizations are accepted nationwide, and people are using this service across the globe. As part of an effort to give notaries the tools to meet consumer demand, states are passing laws that allow their notaries to serve local markets as commissioned online notaries.

Michigan Passes Remote Online Notarization Bill

We’re excited to announce that Michigan just passed a remote online notarization bill through both chambers of the Michigan Legislature. The bill is headed to Governor Rick Snyder’s desk to be signed into law.

Like the laws passed in other states, Michigan HB 5811 empowers Michigan notaries to conduct notarizations online for citizens of all 50 states, regardless of where they’re located at the time of the signing – at home or abroad.
