Oklahoma Becomes 20th State to Adopt Remote Online Notarization

The remote online notarization movement gained incredible momentum in 2018. We saw the number of RON-approved states reach 10, and knew with a lot of hard work – and a little luck – we might see that number double in the new year.

We’re thrilled to share that our prediction came true. Oklahoma recently became the 20th state to adopt RON, and marks the 10th state to pass a RON bill this year.

Senate Bill 915 now heads to the desk of Governor Kevin Stitt for his signature. If signed into law, 83,000 notaries in Oklahoma will have a simpler, safer, more secure way to offer notarizations beginning January 1, 2020.

The Sooner State joins a growing group of states that have approved RON in 2019 - a list that spans the country:

Arizona
Idaho
Iowa
Kentucky
Maryland*
Montana**
North Dakota
South Dakota
Utah
Washington

* Awaiting Governor’s signature
** Updated existing RON laws

Oklahoma is home to some of the largest oil and gas, agricultural, and aerospace sectors in the country. Five Fortune 500 companies call Oklahoma home, including Devon Energy Corp., Chesapeake Energy Corp., and ONEOK, Inc.

We’re excited to get to work and help Oklahoma usher its notaries into the 21st century.

Onward!

The Complete Guide to Remote Online Notarization

You have notarization questions, we have notarization answers. While we at Notarize pride ourselves on providing helpful resources (like this blog!) to demystify notarization, we’re not lawyers and don’t give legal advice. Pro tip: always check with your own attorneys, advisors, or document recipients if you have further questions about notarization or digitally notarized docs.

How Remote Online Notarization Will Disrupt the Industry: An Inside Look From a Mobile Notary Business Owner

Disruptive technology in the modern age has made its mark in almost every industry out there. Although it creates a more efficient product or service for consumers, it can leave business owners in that space with mixed feelings about what may happen in the future to their industry.

Notary services seem to be behind the curve, as it’s still a mostly offline industry where mobile notaries go from door to door to physically take care of the paperwork. That’s where Remote Online Notarization (RON) comes in - this technology would allow for notaries to be able to deliver for their clients from the comfort of their own home/office.
