Idaho Becomes 5th State to Pass Remote Online Notarization Bill in 2019

Though it’s some 2,000 miles away from our Boston headquarters, Idaho holds a special place in the heart of Notarize. It’s where our founder and CEO Pat Kinsel came up with the idea for the company just months after breaking his leg in a skiing accident.

And this week, Idaho became the latest state to adopt remote online notarization as Governor Brad Little signed Senate Bill 1111 into law. SB 1111 is the fifth RON-related bill this year, and equips its 25,000 notaries with the ability to perform remote online notarizations.

Kentucky Passes Remote Online Notarization Bill

More than four million notaries across the country are seeking ways to transform their business with new technology to serve life’s most important transactions.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has officially signed Senate Bill 114 into law, granting the state's 80,000 notaries the ability to perform remote online notarizations. The bill is the fourth RON bill to be enacted in 2019, following bills in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Idaho.

North Dakota Enacts Remote Online Notarization

Remote online notarizations are accepted nationwide, and people are using this service across the globe. As part of an effort to give notaries the tools to meet consumer demand, states are passing laws that allow their notaries to serve local markets as commissioned online notaries.

This year, more than 20 states have introduced this legislation. Today, we're excited to announce that North Dakota is the first state to enact RON legislation in 2019 with the signing of House Bill 1110 by Governor Doug Burgum.

Utah Passes Remote Online Notarization Bill

Utah Governor Gary Herbert has signed House Bill 52 into law, making Utah the latest state to support statewide remote online notarization adoption and regulation. This law means another 22,000 notaries public will be able to tap into the remote online notarization marketplace and serve Americans across the globe.

The law will go into effect November 1, 2019.
