FAQs

My state hasn’t passed a RON bill yet. Can I use Notarize?

Yes! Our platform works in all 50 states and complies with local RON laws.

What is the difference between an eSignature and a notarization?

An eSignature is a quick and efficient way to get documents electronically signed that does not require a notary meeting.

Our commissioned eNotary publics are available 24x7 to notarize documents that require notarization. Learn how to send a notarization request here.

What if I need to send a multi-signer notarization?

If the document needs to be signed by more than one person, you have a few options.

First, if the two signers can be co-located (in the same room), log into the session with the notary together, on the same device, they can get their document notarized in one session.

Second, If the two signers are not co-located (in the same room), but both signers must sign the same document you need to send the document to the first signer, once it is complete, download it, and send it to the second signer for completion.

Third, if the two signers are not co-located (in the same room), and do not need to sign the same document you can send separate transactions to both signers for completion.

What if my signer’s document requires a witness?

Many transactions will require more than just a notary and signer. If your signer’s document requires a witness, they'll need to provide their own witness that is co-located with them during the signing.

When uploading the document for your signer, simply indicate that the document will require witnesses. Learn more about witness-required documents here.

Can my signer get their document notarized if they do not speak English?

We can notarize a document if your signer and our notary can communicate directly, in the same language, without third party involvement, including an interpreter. We generally can help with Spanish-speaking notaries. Please have your signer reach out to support@notarize.com for assistance before connecting with a notary.

Note that the notarial wording in the notarial certificate (the part that the notary signs) will need to be in English. If it is not in English, our notary can attach a notarial certificate to your document which will be in English, assuming your document permits use of such a certificate.

Regardless of language, we are only able to notarize documents that are intended for use in the United States and for signers who have a valid United States Social Security Number. In all cases, we recommend that you confirm with the intended recipient that the document is acceptable for its intended use.

How can I ensure my documents will be accepted?

Documents notarized on the Notarize platform are electronically signed by the signer(s) and our notary. Certain states and public agencies have specific additional requirements and limitations for accepting electronically-signed documents and out-of-state notarizations, and not all documents may be electronically-signed. You should contact the agency that will receive your e-signed and e-notarized document to ensure your document will be acceptable for its intended use. Learn more here.
